Topic: Creating Characters

Brief Description of the Lesson:
Students will analyze a character from an ad and discuss why the character was designed to sell the product. Then the students will create their own character to help them sell an idea they have.

Learning Targets:
I can analyze why a character was created to sell a certain product.
I can create a character to help persuade the teacher to change a rule/event.

Engage Learners’ Interests:
Show an ad that has a cartoon character (ex. Lucky Charms), and talk about how the character is designed to sell a product à “What choices did the media make to help the character sell the product?”

Describe the Activity:
- Discuss above
- Have students think about a rule or event they want to “sell” to the teacher (longer recess, less homework, extra credit)
- Character’s saying
- Elements of character
- Create a character that will help them sell it

Assessment Procedure:
